Compensation Specialist I, People Operations

Division: General and Admin

Job Overview
The Compensation Specialist I, People Operations designs, analyzes, and administers employee compensation programs, including base pay, incentives, bonuses, and benefits structures. This role ensures pay practices comply with legal regulations, align with market trends, and support organizational goals for attracting and retaining talent.

Additionally, the Compensation Specialist I supports the routine functions of the People Operations team, including but not limited to onboarding, offboarding, employee relations, organizational development, and other projects as needed. This role requires a versatile professional who can collaborate across departments to foster a positive work environment and ensure HR processes align with organizational goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Compensation

  • Conduct market research and benchmarking to evaluate salary structures, ensuring competitiveness within the industry and region
  • Analyze job roles to determine appropriate pay grades, classifications, and salary ranges based on responsibilities, skills, and experience
  • Support the design and implementation of compensation programs, including merit increases, bonuses, equity plans, and other incentives
  • Provide guidance to management on compensation-related decisions, including promotions, merit increases, and job offers
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws (e.g., FLSA, Equal Pay Act) and internal policies
  • Maintain and update compensation data in HRIS (e.g., ADP Workforce Now, Deel) and prepare reports
  • Partner with HR, finance, and management to align compensation strategies with budget constraints and organizational goals
  • Address employee inquiries about compensation, explain pay structures, and resolve discrepancies
  • Assist with developing and updating compensation policies and communicate changes to stakeholders
  • Provide support in defining clarity on structure for our global approach to compensation

Total Rewards

  • Support the design and implementation of the merit cycle by establishing merit budget, setting timelines, and rolling out communication
  • Support the development and roll out of total rewards statement
  • Analyze merit cycle outcomes for budget adherence, timeliness, and ensuring pay equity
  • Adjust guidelines, tools, or communication strategies for future cycles based on lessons learned
  • Conduct regular pay equity audits to identify disparities across demographics

Systems and Compliance

  • Manage and maintain a centralized job description database (JDXpert), ensuring accuracy, consistency, and alignment with the organization's job architecture framework
  • Write, revise, and update job descriptions to reflect current roles, responsibilities, and qualifications, ensuring they are clear, compliant, and aligned with organizational goals
  • Maintain the job architecture framework by regularly reviewing and updating job families, levels, and hierarchies to reflect organizational changes and market trends
  • Ensure compensation structure is aligned with the job architecture
  • Collaborate with the L&D team to ensure content of job descriptions are aligned to performance reviews and career development pathways
  • Monitor and audit job descriptions for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including FLSA and Equal Pay Act requirements

Employee Relations and Engagement

  • Mediate and address employee disputes, grievances, or concerns promptly and fairly, ensuring a positive work environment and compliance with company policies and labor laws
  • Provide guidance to employees and managers on HR policies, such as code of conduct, disciplinary actions, and performance improvement plans, to ensure consistent application and understanding
  • Investigate employee complaints or allegations, such as harassment or policy violations, documenting findings and recommending appropriate actions to maintain a fair and respectful workplace
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal labor laws (e.g., FMLA, ADA, FLSA, and EEOC regulations) and international labor law

People Operations and Compliance

  • Interpret and explain human resources policies, procedures, laws, standards, or regulations
  • Support the continued improvement of standardized processes for all compensation changes, including promotions, merit increases, equity adjustments, and job reclassifications, ensuring consistency, transparency, and compliance
  • Maintain up-to-date employee records and HR documentation
  • Support the People Operations OKRs
  • Support the onboarding and offboarding processes
  • Ensure compliance with immigration regulations and collaborate with legal on gathering necessary documentation, ensure timely filings, and monitor visa expiration dates for renewals or extensions
  • Collaborate and maintain excellent relationships with the Talent Acquisition and L&D teams
  • Support the Benefits team

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in human resources, preferably in compensation or HR analytics or
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience
  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); advanced Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
  • Highly detail oriented and organized; ability to multi-task and balance competing priorities
  • Initiative, good judgment, and ability to work under pressure in a changing environment
  • Knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations
  • Empathy and emotional intelligence to navigate employee relations effectively
  • Collaborative mindset to work cross-functionally with leadership and teams
  • Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate employee needs across time zones

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Communication, or a related field
  • Knowledge of HR systems (e.g., ADP Workforce Now, JDXpert, ClearCompany, Deel)
  • Familiar with global HR practices
  • Familiar with environmental conservation and sustainability issues
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP)
  • PHR or SHRM-CP

Working Remotely
SCS is recruiting all open roles to be remote; allowing our employees the ability to work flexibly and allowing SCS as a company to diversify the experience and perspectives of our growing workforce. This is a home-office based role and may include travel with local, domestic, and/or international trips. Details will be clarified during the recruitment process.

Estimated Annual Salary
$50,918.40 - $70,000.00
