Overview
The Auditor’s primary service is to conduct verifications against the European Emissions Trading System (ETS) Directive. The same ETS verification methodology is used for the European CBAM Regulation. The SCS Global Services verifications cover these scopes of the ETS/CBAM: Iron and steel production, Production or processing of (non) ferrous metals, including aluminum, Primary production of aluminum, Cement, glass and ceramic, Pulp and paper, Production of chemicals, and Aviation. The verifications are conducted partly as a desk/remote activity and partly onsite. The contractor must be physically located in Europe with the ability to travel. Working proficiency in English and Dutch, Spanish, or German is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Verification
Conduct a robust and detailed verification of the emission data for installations of our customers.
Apply sampling techniques in relation to data sampling and checking the control activities, including assessing the materiality of misstatements.
Assessing data and information systems, IT systems, data flow activities, control activities, control systems and procedures for control activities.
Perform verification in an industrial setting, at companies such as blast furnaces, iron, steel and aluminium foundries and processors, chemical plants.
Generate high-quality verification reports, ensuring accurate, detailed, and consistent descriptions of evidence and findings.
Independently, or with teams, assess the emission data of installations and challenge the data with your own observations.
Be proficient in program and verification requirements, ensuring a pragmatic approach to a wide range of verification circumstances while maintaining the integrity of the program.
Communications
Communicate the requirements of ETS / CBAM to clients clearly, effectively, and concisely
Communicate regularly with clients ensuring that Corrective Action Requests are closed within appropriate deadlines
Communicate promptly with SCS staff on the scheduling of verifications and revisions to draft reports, if needed
Minimum Qualifications
Training and qualification to lead ETS verification audits.
Bachelor’s degree is preferred or in lieu of a bachelor’s degree, a minimum of 4 years of professional experience in one or more scopes of ETS / CBAM ( Iron and steel production, Production or processing of (non) ferrous metals, including aluminum, Primary production of aluminum, Cement, glass and ceramic, Pulp and paper, Production of chemicals, Aviation).
2+ years of professional experience in one or more ETS / CBAM scopes.
ISO auditor training certification or willingness to complete the ISO training offered by SCS.
Fluency in English with work experience that involves professional and technical written communication in English.
Working proficiency in Dutch, Spanish, and/or German; other languages is a plus.
Strong organization and prioritization skills with exceptional attention to detail.
Strong customer service and teamwork orientation.
Initiative, good judgment, ability to work independently, responsive, and adaptive personality.
Applied experience in verification and/or auditing and/or quality assurance.
Proficient with business software including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Information Communication Technology tools (Zoom, Skype, Microsoft Teams, etc.).
Ability to travel domestically for audits as needed.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Currently qualified as Green House GAS (GHG) auditor.
Physical Requirements
This is a home office-based job and requires travel for on-site audits with our customers 75% of the time. Must be able to physically travel to audit sites, and a driver's license is required. Primarily computer-based work and must be able to speak and listen in person and on the phone.
Work Environment
Home office and on-site client visits. Site visits may include assessing industrial sites of all sizes. Appropriate work attire and safety gear are expected (e.g., closed-toed shoes, field PPE, etc.).
