Technical Specialist I, SPO

Job Overview
The Technical Specialist I, Sustainable Palm Oil (SPO) provides auditing and technical support to Technical Managers and program staff in the delivery of certification services for Sustainable Palm Oil programs. This role conducts onsite and remote audits against applicable RSPO standards and certification requirements while supporting technical reviews, certification activities, and program quality initiatives. The position manages assigned certification projects from audit planning through report completion, ensuring compliance with accreditation requirements, quality management systems, and program procedures. The Technical Specialist I develops technical expertise in sustainable palm oil certification, responsible sourcing, and supply chain verification while collaborating with clients, auditors, international affiliates, and internal stakeholders to deliver high-quality certification services. The role also supports continuous improvement initiatives, technical resource development, and accreditation activities to maintain the integrity and consistency of the certification program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Auditing and Technical Expertise

  • Conduct onsite and remote certification audits in accordance with RSPO standards, certification requirements, and applicable ISO auditing guidelines
  • Complete assigned audits according to established timelines, verification requirements, and program procedures
  • Perform technical assessments, data validation, document reviews, and risk evaluations to support certification activities
  • Support the development of audit plans, risk assessments, and verification approaches for assigned certification projects
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and technically sound audit reports, including interpretation of applicable standards, technical findings, and supporting evidence
  • Support the documentation, communication, and closure of audit findings, including corrective action requests and follow-up activities
  • Participate in witness audits and calibration activities to support auditor competency and technical consistency
  • Conduct technical research and interpretation of applicable standards to support certification decisions and program implementation

Quality and Program Development

  • Deliver certification services in accordance with SCS Corporate Quality requirements, accreditation requirements, and applicable certification schemes
  • Participate in internal and external accreditation audits and support responses to audit findings and corrective actions
  • Maintain competency records, training logs, calibration activities, and required technical qualifications
  • Maintain current knowledge of RSPO standards, EUDR requirements, certification system updates, and industry best practices
  • Support the SCS Quality Management System by adhering to quality procedures, certification protocols, and documentation standards
  • Assist in technical reviews of audit reports and certification documentation under the guidance of senior technical staff
  • Support the development, testing, and refinement of program templates, guidance documents, and quality management tools
  • Participate in technical training, calibration exercises, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance program quality and consistency

Client Management

  • Communicate professionally with clients, auditors, international affiliates, and internal stakeholders throughout the certification process
  • Provide guidance to clients regarding certification requirements, audit expectations, and required documentation
  • Support audit planning, client preparation, and project coordination to facilitate successful certification activities
  • Respond to routine technical and certification-related inquiries while escalating complex technical issues as appropriate
  • Build collaborative relationships with clients and internal teams to support high-quality service delivery and timely project completion
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and customer service throughout the certification process

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in natural resources, sustainability, environmental studies, or a related field and
  • 3+ years experience in professional auditing or quality assurance in a manufacturing setting
  • Experience with the third-party certification process
  • professional experience in the palm oil sector including palm oil mill, refinery, crusher, oleochemical producer, biodiesel, food manufacturing, home and personal care products, animal feed and/or cosmetic sector; this also includes experience in HCV and HCS assessment, social auditing, or involvement in human rights activities
  • Demonstrable understanding of the latest version of RSPO Certification Systems
  • RSPO Supply Chain Lead Auditor certification course or willingness to complete courses and training offered by SCS
  • ISO 9001 Lead Auditor course training or willingness to complete the ISO course offered by SCS
  • Ability and willingness to travel for audits up to 50-75% of the year
  • Fluency in English with experience that involves professional and technical verbal and written communication
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Proficient with business software including MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and the ability to learn, adapt, and utilize various internal and external database systems
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Initiative, good judgment, and ability to work independently under pressure in a changing environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in natural resources, sustainability, environmental studies, or a related field
  • Professional fluency in another language such as French, Spanish, Portuguese, etc.

Working Remotely
SCS Global Services is recruiting all open roles to be remote; allowing our employees the ability to work flexibly and allowing SCS Global Services as a company to diversify the experience and perspectives of our growing workforce. This is a home-office based role and may include travel with local, domestic, and/or international trips. Details will be clarified during the recruitment process.

Estimated Monthly Salary
$1900.00 -$2500.00 USD
