Sr. Technical Director, Global Heat Reduction Initiative

Division: General and Admin
Position Type: Full-Time Regular

Company Overview
The SCS Global Registry is a platform and clearinghouse for the evaluation, registration, and financing of climate mitigation projects. We oversee projects that contribute meaningfully to the reduction of excess planetary heat, both in the near term and longer term. Our goal is to support efforts that can stabilize and ultimately restore Earth’s climate, while simultaneously providing additional human health and environmental co-benefits in concert with UN Sustainable Development Goals. Our team is focused on projects that can be effectively deployed and scaled rapidly to slow the rise in global temperatures, using available and emerging methods and technologies.

Job Overview
SCS Global Services is launching the Global Heat Reduction Initiative (GHRi), a groundbreaking approach to climate change mitigation, climate accounting, and the voluntary carbon market, based on the latest IPCC science. We aim to help businesses, public sector agencies, and civil society group around the world lower their climate impact through measures that contribute directly to lowering the planet’s excess trapped heat in the short term, so we can build a viable bridge to a net-zero future.

We are seeking a highly competent Senior Technical Director to join our team. As an expert in climate science and the Voluntary Carbon Market, you will be the in-house lead for this new climate accounting registry – the only one on the market to issue credits backed by reductions in fast-acting, previously unaccounted-for climate pollutants including methane, black carbon and HFCs, as well as measures to mitigate the loss of climate-critical ecosystems and heat-reflective ice- and snowpacks.

In this role, you will manage project design description review, methodology creation and review, certification of Verification and Validation Bodies (VVBs), and credit issuance. You will also lend your expertise to support GHRi’s broader activities in climate advocacy, and help private sector, government, and NGO partners apply our next-generation climate accounting standard. The successful candidate will be technically astute, organized, and committed to the highest standards of compliance and transparency. You will have the competence and agility to navigate a startup environment in an exciting new field of climate action. Stakeholders know they can count on this position for expert guidance and process improvement recommendations.

If this sounds like you, and you are eager to contribute to the growth of high-integrity, leading-edge climate mitigation strategies, we welcome your application.

GHRi and the GHR Registry were established by SCS Global Services, a global leader in third-party environmental and sustainability verification, certification, auditing, testing, and standards development.
