Technical Associate, C.A.F.E. Practices

Division: Food and Agriculture
Position Type: Full-Time Regular

Job Overview
The Technical Associate in the Food and Agriculture division involves working on different aspects of the C.A.F.E. Practices program and other programs related to coffee. The primary responsibilities of the Technical Associate relate to multiple aspects of program development and research, but this position may also involve supporting audits and report reviews and providing guidance and training to verification organizations. The Technical Associate's main responsibilities are the development and continued improvement of standards, program materials, and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Development

  • Carry out research in support of program development and improvements
  • Prepare memos and other communication material resulting from research and investigations
  • Support in program review, including stakeholder feedback processes and benchmarking analysis
  • Develop and update program materials and procedures
  • Manage program development projects using project management principles and tools, including Asana and Salesforce
  • Attend trainings, trade shows, conferences, and meetings, as necessary
  • Collaborate with various teams and external technical experts on standard and program development
  • Ensure program compliance with SCS quality system

Technical Support

  • Prepare written guidance and provide technical support to clients and internal partners on an as needed basis via email and telephone
  • Develop and edit program materials, reports, and report templates
  • Develop and deliver training programs and related materials
  • Conduct risk assessments and benchmarking

Operations

  • Support team operations when necessary
  • Participate in team meetings as requested by managers
  • Support and, if needed, represent the program for internal SCS initiatives, such as ISO accreditation, etc.
  • Additional tasks as requested by the Director and managers

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field (e.g., Agriculture and/or International Development related) and
  • 5+ years of professional experience in the coffee field (graduate degrees in relevant disciplines may be considered in lieu of professional experience)
  • Experience in agricultural settings outside of the United States
  • Excellent technical writing and oral communication skills
  • Fluent in English with experience that involves professional written and verbal communication
  • Strong track record of effectively managing complex projects
  • Strong critical analysis and attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills
  • Ability to adapt to different work styles and changing situations
  • Strong customer service and teamwork orientation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Initiative, good judgment, and ability to work independently under pressure in a changing environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in a related field
  • Experience as a Project Manager
  • Experience in training development and/or delivery
  • Prior experience with a coffee-related certification scheme, such as C.A.F.E. Practices or 4C
  • Professional experience in program development within the certification/auditing field
  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis
  • Fluent in Spanish

Working Remotely
SCS is recruiting all open roles to be remote; allowing our employees the ability to work flexibly and allowing SCS as a company to diversify the experience and perspectives of our growing workforce. This is a home-office based role and may include travel with local, domestic, and/or international trips. Details will be clarified during the recruitment process.

Estimated Annual Salary
$51,000 - $70,000
